SPECIAL PANEL DISCUSSION - Regulatory & Legislative Issues of Concern to California Wholesale Brokers
Richard A. Brown, attorney-at-law, Co-counsel for industry amicus letter on Hull &Co.
Brady Kelley, Executive Director, NAPSLO
Ben McKay, Executive Director, Surplus Line Association of California
Moderator: Hank Haldeman, the Sullivan Group
The panel will delve into two, critical, breaking issue that should be of great concern to every wholesale broker in California.
One arises from a recent court case where the court has held that a wholesale insurance broker may owe a duty of care to a policyholder with whom it has no contractual relationship, communications or contract. The panel will review the circumstances and events, and what they mean for California wholesalers, along with what is being done in response.
The panel will also discuss the growing concern that the reduced standards for review of non-admitted carriers, a result of NRRA, could lead to weakened security or contamination of the market by bad players. Industry and the NAIC are working to address this. The panel will review the concerns, the steps underway, and what it means for California wholesalers.
