CIWA Q2 Future Newsletter 2026: Success Starts with One Habit

Every career in insurance is shaped by the experiences, challenges, and people we encounter along the way. This month, we’re excited to feature a conversation between Max Plummer, E&S Senior Underwriter at MUSIC, and Jeff Kamrowski, President of MUSIC.

Together, they discuss the qualities that build lasting success in the industry, from adapting to workforce changes and embracing new technology to the importance of mentorship, continuous learning, and meaningful professional relationships.

Whether you’re just beginning your insurance journey or looking to grow in your career, Jeff’s perspective offers practical advice and valuable insights that remind us learning never truly ends.

The Best Insurance Professionals Never Stop Learning

Max Plummer: How do workforce retirement trends impact the insurance industry, and what role do data and technology play in addressing these challenges?

Jeff Kamrowski: “The wave of retirements among experienced professionals is reshaping the insurance workforce, creating a gap in institutional knowledge and expertise. To bridge this gap, organizations must invest in training new talent while leveraging data analytics and advanced technology to streamline processes, enhance decision-making, and facilitate knowledge transfer. Embracing digital solutions allows us to retain critical insights and empower the next generation of talent.”

Max: What advice would you offer young professionals entering the industry during a soft market?

Jeff: “In a soft market, adaptability and resilience are essential. I encourage young professionals to focus on building strong client relationships and deepening their understanding of risk management. Continuous learning and a proactive approach to market changes will help them stand out and advance their careers, even in challenging economic conditions.”

Max: How do you monitor competitors, and how does this influence your strategy?

Jeff: “We monitor competitors by analyzing market trends, product innovations, and agency feedback. This intelligence informs our strategic decisions, ensuring we make informed decisions to remain agile and responsive to industry shifts. It is important to use competitor insights not to imitate, but to identify opportunities for differentiation and growth.”

Max: What advice would you give to your younger self as you began your career in insurance?

Jeff: “I would advise my younger self to seek mentorship early, embrace change, and never underestimate the value of continuous learning. Developing a broad perspective and cultivating strong professional relationships are fundamental to long-term success in this industry.”

Max: What is the value of insurance networking groups like CIWA for individuals and the industry?

Jeff: “Networking groups such as CIWA provide invaluable platforms for collaboration, education, and professional development. They foster industry advancement by connecting individuals, sharing best practices, and supporting innovation. For both newcomers and seasoned professionals, participation strengthens personal growth and contributes to the collective progress of the insurance sector.”

Keep the conversation going.
